The Social Network

Jameela Jamil's character Tahani Al-Jamil in the series 'The Good Place' jokes about how she advised Mark Zuckerberg to remove 'the' from Facebook. The movie 'Social Network' shows how one of Mark's investors actually advised him to remove the 'the'.

What started off as a sexist and cruel joke to embarrass a girl Mark had something to do with, Mark got the idea for a social networking site like Facebook. This joke of his blew up and almost all of the campus wanted in on the site he made for 'ranking' girls.

Today, Facebook is just another daily routine for many people. People post pictures, share posts, even 'poke' their friends. Imagine being able to connect with your long-lost friend, sitting in the comfort of your home. You would gladly take it, right? I'm sure all of you would have seen your parents having a gala time talking and catching up with their friends who they have not talked to since they graduated.

The major reason why Facebook became successful was because of it's 'right on time' introduction. Just when everybody wanted a platform to connect with each other, Facebook was founded. People were elated to have a platform to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. It was invented at the exact time which made consumers want all the more to be a part of the social media platform.

Facebook is also extremely easy to use. There's nothing much that has to be learned. It's very easy to 'social network' on Facebook. You just have to post images, chat with friends, and like other people's posts. It's that easy.

Facebook has amazing upgrades. While some upgrades may not exactly be likable, I think all of us can agree on the fact that all these upgrades have been the talk of the town. Be it the various ways to like a picture or the addition of 'story' just like on Instagram, all upgrades have it's lovers and haters.

Engaging features are a part of Facebook. Facebook is kind of like an 'all you can eat' buffet. The platform alone has a news feed, a messaging box, video, and of course, the ability to like, comment, and follow.

All around the world, Facebook has a massive user count of 2.3 billion users. Not only are they spread across the globe, they also range in age and sex. Facebook has acquired two other massive giants, Whatsapp and Instagram.

When Facebook finally went public after Zuckerberg's labour, many people were confused on how it was going to fare. Some people thought that this idea of networking was absurd while others thought that this will end up being a huge smash-hit. Facebook did not want to fade away after a point of time. It wanted to stay around for the next century or so. No matter what came and went, Facebook wanted to make sure that it was here to stay.
